I am planning on making a quick trip from Charlotte to Cabela's on Tuesday. I have only ever been to one in Texas during a hunting trip and I want to compare it to Bass Pro and Gander Mtn. Any thoughts in people that have been to the one in SC. Is it worth the drive ???????

If you have been to the Cabelas in the DFW area, prepare to be disappointed The Cabelas in Greenville DC just doesn't compare.

I wasn't impressed. It was no different than bass pro. I've always heard how great cabelas is, but it wasn't worth the trip if it's going to be over an hour.

If you ever find yourself in the DFW area of Texas, that Cabelas is WORTH the trip.

The one (two actually) we have here in Minnesota are the size of a bass pro....however...they carry far less junk and a lot better quality merchandise. Even their house brand is MUCH better than redhead IMO

I agree with the statement about their house brand. It is quality stuff.

If I never have to see another piece of Red Head gear again I would be a happy. I say make the drive. typically Cabellas has better quality stuff than BPS

It's not even close to being as big as the Concord Bass Pro. I wasn't overly impressed, but hey it's another outlet that I'm glad to see around.

That's true. I'll still stop by if I'm in the area, but I don't think I'll make any special trips.

Yeah I wanted to stop last time I was passing through coming back from Midland Texas, and we just ran short on time since it was fixing to close that evening, so maybe next time.

Cabelas has downsized their stores for years.

That said their bigger stores they built in the late 1990s-early 2000s are very nice.

I was at the Greenville SC, Cabelas last week.
Not as big as some Cabelas stores I've been to but worth the trip. Like others said, I just like Cabelas house-brand stuff much better the BPS.
Last summer I went to the Cabelas in Harrisburg, PA. I think it's the 2nd largest Cabelas in the country (home store in Sidney, NE is the largest). It was well worth the trip. HUGE store.

Or Kansas City!
... I've been to the original store in Kearney,NE and the big one in Sidney. But,the one in Kansas City is my favorite as well. We always stay just across the street on our trips to our lease in north central KS,and look forward to making a daytime trip to Cabelas and spending our evenings at the Hollywood Casino which is just down the street...... In the very back left corner of the store is "Mule Deer Country"...... worth the trip just to see that!

I was there not to long ago. It is not much different from bass pro. Maybe a little bigger that's about it. They will have one in Garner in 2015 I think. I also heard we are getting a field and stream at some point too.

F&S is just a rebranded Dick's Sporting Goods. Dicks stopped selling "assault rifles" after Newtown when we needed the support. They ran like little girls and now want to sell evil black rifles again. So they are doing it through their F&S brand. Dicks and F&S are dead to me.

They are no longer building the "Cathedral" size BPS OR Cabelas from my understanding. It's a shame, but I kind of understand it given how much online service Cabelas does now.

I have been to I believe 6 of the main ones. My goal is to hit all of them one day :D

The one in Billings Montana was my first disappointment. Still had the main stuff, but you couldn't spend 4 hours there and eat wild bison or buffalo like you can at the big stores. I still think it's worth an hour drive if it has a restaurant inside, and is part of a large shopping complex like BPS in Concord.

I did not know that. Never been in a F&S. Good to know. I never go to dicks anymore either.

Same opinion here and the location sucks as far as road access, congestion etc.....

The SC store sucks in my opinion, not worth the drive down there.

When Cabelas dropped the Herters Decoy line I lost a lot of interest. Probably 75% (maybe even a little bit more?) of my hunting, fishing, and shooting supplies comes from other sources. If I need something, I do an online search and find the best price. Cabelas never seems to be able to compete or does not have the item I need. I just ordered a Timney Trigger on sale from WALMART! Who would have thunk it? They were nearly 15% cheaper than anyone else. And they are American made. Sorry Cabela's, but I'm a red-blooded Capitalist. ;)
