Fiddleheads, Anyone?

I was visiting family in Northern Maine last week and it just so happened that the fiddlehead ferns were just coming up. Don't know if anybody in NC has eaten these, but in northern New England a meal of these along with a frying pan full of brook trout is considered fine eating.

Fiddleheads grow along stream banks and come up just after the spring-time floods recede. This photo is of the stream that flows near my boyhood home. Caught a lot of trout and shot a lot of Grouse here when I was a kid.

Never heard of the fiddlehead ferns very interesting, and the River is beautiful I could camp there for a week easily..
