Now that you've described the OP, how about the porkies? Only seen one up here and it was road kill.

I saw a lot in the Northern Rockies. ....flat little animals that live in the middle of the road. I guess mama & daddy told them to go play in the road!![emoji12]

They are an absolute pest to hunt dogs around when you just go to an area that has them and you only hunt there occasionally. I dog just about will not pass them up. Then you have a mess on your hands. If you have them around all the time you can break the dogs off them like any other trash.

Armadillos are moving north and Porcupines are moving south. The two of them squaring off would make for an interesting battle wouldn't it? All defense for sure.
