NCWRC just approved bringing elk hunting season to public hearings.

Disagree. If your only issuing 5 tags, every tag should be filled. 3 out of 5 is hardly what I'd call a success.......

Well considering they closed one area due to 'over harvest' and opened another area with far fewer elk, not bad I'd say.

Also some hunters may be picky in what they shoot. Not everybody has to kill something.

Should NC manage elk for hunters or farmers/landowners?

Should hunter or landowner concerns come first in elk management?

CRC- what is your opinion on the matter? I don't live in elk country and don't have a strong feeling one way or the other....I assume you do since you post about the subject constantly so I'm curious what you think?

Landowner concerns should come first (just like they do for deer).

It should also be the same for black bear but is not.

What difference does it make to you, you don't harvest deer, you don't bear hunt, so how is it really an issue to you? Oh yeah, your not a landowner.

Its funny how the NCWRC sees a need for a two bear limit due to landowner concerns...............

Coon, otter, beaver, deer regulations and limits have all been liberalized in the past 15 years due to people complaining about them.

The otter reintroduction up here was not popular except with the bunny huggers but a few complaints and the trapping was opened wide.

Ontario has the same elk from the same place as NC does

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission staff is proposing first-ever hunting seasons for elk in the mountains and alligators in the coastal plain in 2016. Hunting would be by special permit only.

The proposals will go to public hearings for comments in January.

The elk herd has grown from 52 animals reintroduced in 2001-02 in Great Smoky Mountains National Park to about 150-200, including those living outside the park, primarily in Haywood County.

There is some support to take problem elk and release them in Graveyard Fields/Black Balsam area of the Pisgah Game Lands.

I think they would thrive up there if they don't get shot. Probably some of the best elk habitat in western NC.

Best breeding and rut takes place with bulls 5 years or older do most of the breeding.

Unlike deer when any buck will do for breeding.,
