The Canadian Top project area is adjacent to Cataloochee Valley in North Carolina. The 600-acre burn unit is located on Bald Top and Jesse Ridge. The controlled burns are intended to restore the oak woodlands on the area's upper slopes and ridges and improve forage for elk over time.
Disagree. If your only issuing 5 tags, every tag should be filled. 3 out of 5 is hardly what I'd call a success.......
CRC- what is your opinion on the matter? I don't live in elk country and don't have a strong feeling one way or the other....I assume you do since you post about the subject constantly so I'm curious what you think?
What difference does it make to you, you don't harvest deer, you don't bear hunt, so how is it really an issue to you? Oh yeah, your not a landowner.Landowner concerns should come first (just like they do for deer).
It should also be the same for black bear but is not.

The proposals will go to public hearings for comments in January.
The elk herd has grown from 52 animals reintroduced in 2001-02 in Great Smoky Mountains National Park to about 150-200, including those living outside the park, primarily in Haywood County.
I think they would thrive up there if they don't get shot. Probably some of the best elk habitat in western NC.
