Ghosts and Other Creepy Things

I was reading another thread about the "peach orb" and that got me to thinking about some of the odd things that have happened to me in my 49 years on the planet.
My wifes father passed and she inherited the house, which we now live in. This house is now haunted by my father in law. Lights cut on and off by themselves. The alarm that sounds when a door or window opens goes off several times a month. I just say hello Mel and go on about my business. I also had a dream that a good friend had died and come to find out he was killed in a wreck late that same night.
What are some of the paranormal things you guys/gals have witnessed? I have more but I will limit them to that for now.

Could be that Major Fluctuations in temps will cause windows to budge one way or the other causing false alarms on security systems..

I have more than I could possibly share but I have one that happened to my Grandfather that I'll share. He was in his home where he had lived for decades when he heard someone coming down the attic steps. This puzzled my grandpa because he was the only one home. He opened the attic door and there was a glowing white figure of a man on the stairs. He asked the figure "what are you doing here"? The figure got a shocked expression on its face and said "I live here". To which my grandpa replied "No you don't ". At that the figure vanished.

Most recently our house has become occupied by someone looking for "Roger"....the wife has heard this person call loudly for Roger a couple of times now. The first time was about a month ago and she actually thought it was me , at 2AM, in our spare bedroom, calling for someone named Roger, not once, but three different times. She went in there and of course there was nothing there, then went into the bedroom where I was fast asleep...until she woke me up hollering at me that someone was in the house.
Since that time I've heard a soft voice calling from the same room but I can't understand it..we both wake up at 3AM almost every night. We live on the site of a town that was destroyed by a tornado and never rebuilt, so there's a lot of long term history in my area.
I've never claimed to know much about that subject, just enough to know there's things we don't understand, but yet are very real in some form.
I've had other experiences with the unknown several times in my life, but that's the latest.

I'm sure people are convinced in these things, but I look at ghosts just like the Easter Bunny, Count Chocula, Santa Claus and a really easy to get along with DB Cooper.....things that seem nice, but just don't exist.

I had never seen or heard anything until about 3 years ago.

I was sleeping in bed and facing the middle of the bed. For some reason, I don't remember anything touching me, I rolled over to face the outside of the bed and when I did I saw a woman standing/ leaning over me like a mother would do to her child as she checks on them in the night. I thought it was my wife and I said some thing like
" Rebecca what are you doing ". Then I realized it was not her and I knew instantly that it was a " ghost ". It was a very peaceful experience and that I did not want it to go away. I remember looking hard to see if was one of my grandmothers, both of whom are deceased, but I could not tell who it was. I could only tell that it was a woman and it was the upper torso, no legs could be seen and it was all white. The weird part ( I know that sounds funny ) was that it looked like she had something on her back. I have no idea what was on her back. It will describe it almost like angel wings that you would see in a picture - but I could not see it clearly enough to call what ever was on the back to be wings. After it looked at me for a few seconds it moved away straight in the wall and was gone.

If it was my brain playing tricks on me, so be it, but it was the most peaceful feeling I have ever felt. I wish I could bottle that up feeling and sell it.

My mother in law (MIL) lived with us fro several years before she died. At times now days when we hear the bump in the night, something fall in the hall or other noise, we just say... 'Annie Ruth, go on back to bed".

Folks I don't want to debate with anyone about what they have seen or heard. I am sure whatever it was is very real to you. I would suggest doing some Bible study on the subjects of ghosts and spirits. I believe you will find that spirits do exist but they are of and associated with the devil and his demons. They might pose and try to convince you that they are loved ones or friendly ghosts but that is not according to the scriptures. If I was encountering the happenings that some are, and have in the past, I would go straight to the word of God and see what it says about demonic spirits.

I did a little internet search of the bible and ghost/ spirits. I found exactly what you are talking about. The bible warns against people contacting the dead. I certainly did not contact whatever it was I saw, it came to me.

Check out this quote from the bible “…even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Cor 11:14)

Here is a link to an article on the bible and ghost.

As a Pastor I do not disagree. I will only add that people in the Bible at times did see Angels.

I have a few of my own, most were on mission trips to foreign countries. One of my favorites is a reminder that we are protected. This is not my story but, one of a pastor who took his family to live in Africa and serve as missionaries there. They had been there for a while and had heard from neighboring tribes that one tribe had vowed to kill them. One night they were having dinner in their hut and heard some unusual noises outside. They looked outside and their hut was surrounded by the head-hunters. They immediately began to pray. They fell asleep praying. When they woke up, they were surprised to be alive. Two weeks later, they got an invitation from the tribe that came to kill them. The pastor asked the chief why his men didn't kill his family and the chief laughed, as did his men. He told the preacher that they couldn't have killed him if they tried because between his warriors and their hut, was a wall of men, 6 deep, in metal armor and they all had swords.

Not to argue, but some mighty good folks in the Bible gave up the ghost.

One thing I've learned is to never argue religion. I respect others' opinions and hope I get the same in return. What I'm getting at is, I don't see your statement as arguing, just adding to a conversation.

Our house currently has two spirits and visit us regularly. Paranormal team came out to investigate and found they were not just our imagination. Have their voices recorded as further proof.

Also , I do agree that the Bible clearly tells us not to look for or pursue spirits of any kind. That all spirits that dwell on earth are not of God.
What we are calling ghosts may be a form of energy that has yet to be clearly explained. There is no mistaking that we do not know every mystery of this natural world.

Only thing I have, My great grandmother passed away when I was about 8 years old. Her and my father were very close, about a week after she passed away I was woke up and she was sitting on the end of my bed. Not in the flesh but not like a ghost either, hard to explain. She asked how dad was doing since she passed and she wanted to make sure he was ok, asked me to tell him that she was happy and out of pain. She then told me to go back to sleep. I had just laid back down when my mom came in my room and asked who I was talking to so I told her. Freaked her out a little and I still don't think I was dreaming as I was still awake when mom came in my room.

Does this mean that all (assuming they are here among us) spirits are of Satan? In other words none are from heaven here among us? I've been told so and so seen so and so standing at his bed just before he past away. You know this type thing. I'm asking because I've never read the parts of the Bible you mention regarding this subject.

I can't answer that but the Bible says this; Job 7:9-10 says that he who goes down to the grave does not come up, that he never returns to his house, and that his place does not know him. Psalm 146:4 says that when breath leaves us we return to the earth and our plans perish. Lev. 19:31 says to give no credit to mediums and familiar spirits, do not seek them, to be defiled by them.

In the NT there are many scriptures about angels that protect us, whether we can see them or not I have no idea. I can only say that I've never seen one. As someone else posted I believe the scripture most important to remember is 2nd Cor. 11:14-15, it says that the enemy will masquerade as an angel of light. Also 1 John 4:1 says to not believe every spirit but to test the spirit to see whether it is of God. I'm not sure how you test a spirit but my understanding of this goes directly back to the enemy masquerading as good.

I believe that each of us has two guardian angels that are with us, they stay with us from birth unless we make a decision against God and of our own choosing reject the Savior. These two personal angels will escort us into heaven. This belief leaves no room or need for any other spirit other than the Holy Spirit while on earth. So until God shows me otherwise my belief is that any other spirit is of the devil and not of God.

We have to remember that the enemy does not always show his worst intentions at the first meeting. He was a smooth talker in the Garden of Eden, there is no reason to think that he would not or could not pretend to be a loved relative or friend. The best advice I can give is what the Bible says in James 4:7-7 resist the Devil and he will flee from you.

I believe 100% what zachs grandpa said. My father has always said the same regarding this subject. Paranormal activities have always intrigued me my whole life. Like others i too have had many encounters with things i cannot explain. When they happen i say a prayer for the good lord to watch over me and protect me from anything evil. In my opinion there is good and evil spirits. If you have a strong faith the good will out weigh the evil 100% of the time!

No. No one can say that. The dead were seen after they died numerous times in the Bible and angels were seen many times.

My most vivid encounter was a about a yr after my dads best friend was killed in a horrible hunting accident. (his father had poor vision and mistook him for a deer)

My dad, grandfather and myself were in my grandfathers living room, watching football and taking about hunting and my dads best friend that past away and how we hoped he was happy and looking over us. Shortly after my grandfather catches something out of the corner of his eye which in turn causes me to look out of his kitchen window. Clear as day, someone is standing there. He got up and went to the door and the person we saw standing out side the door vanished. My fathers back was to the window so he had no idea what had happened. To this day it gives me and my grandfather chills thinking about it. Whatever it was looked erily similar to my dads best friend. We walked all around the house and no one was there. My dad still thinks my grandfather and i are crazy when we talk about it. Whats wild is we both saw whatever it was standing out of the window.... And both described the same thing....

Early one morning two car loads of us were making our way to the hunting camp, after the pavement ended we had a 6 mile drive down a one lane dirt road to the house. The property was mostly swamp and planted pine trees, owned by St. Joe Paper Company in NW Florida.
The area was a turpentine area during the early 1800's and lots of slave labor was used during that time to work those huge longleaf pines. There were lots of settlements back then to house the workers, even after slavery was abolished there were people that lived in small communities all through those woods. There is no other house or dwelling down this road until you go the full 6 miles to the end.
I was passenger in the first vehicle, we had 5 people in a jacked up Blazer, the other vehicle was a Dodge truck with 4 more people and it was within just a few hundred yards behind us as we turned off the highway. After we went about 1/2 mile we saw someone walking down the side of the road in the headlights, it was a adult black male with a white shirt and overalls on in bare feet. As we slowed to see if he needed help he walked off of the road into the planted pines so we just went on our way. Of course that was the subject of conversation for the rest of the way to the house, why would anyone be walking down our road at that time of the morning unless his car broke down or he was up to no good. There was no reason for a person to be in the middle of nowhere since we had seen no vehicles on the paved road.
When we got to the camp, and started unloading the other truck drove up and they were all excited about the guy they had just seen a curve up from the camp, a black male with a white shirt, overalls and bare feet. He walked off the road as they tried to get to him since he was close to the camp. Somehow he had traveled 5 miles in just a couple of minutes, and was seen exactly as we had seen him still headed to the end of the road. The end of the road was about 200 yards from the camp, and was a old catfish camp with a awesome artesian well, the land was private, gated and posted since before I was born so it wasn't visited by just anyone.
I can still clearly see the fella, it wasn't a figure, or anything like that..but I know it was impossible for the same person to be seen by two separate car loads of people, in that time period, in two very distinct locations..still gives me the willy's.

I have witness several family members of mine take their final breath. All of them seem to be focused on someone else in the room besides the ones I could see.

Most of them have been fairly peaceful experiences, other than my grandfather who was an atheist, he screamed his last breath.

Just as a final thought on this let me add that I am certainly not debating or making light of what anyone has experienced. There are things that we do not, cannot, and are not supposed to understand. The Bible also says in Deut. 29:29 that some things are left to the secrets of the Lord and are not for us to know. My reasoning for even posting on this was to warn against the temptation of becoming too engrossed or too "friendly" with a spirit. I believe with all certainty that evil, demonic, helpers of Satan roam about the earth. I have seen first hand and also heard the testimony of others who have experienced terrible encounters with demonic spirits.

Many people on this site are students of the word of God but there are some who aren't and not everyone who reads on here is a member and posts on here. So for those people I advise you to be extremely careful when it comes to subjects of this matter. Believe me, you can get in over your head before you know it. Look what happened to Adam and Eve for just taking one bite!!!!!

Good thoughts and warnings ZG.
We have to remember as well that God gave man dominance over the creatures of the earth, but not over the earth itself. He made that for his pleasure and gave us the charge of taking care of it. There are mysteries that are attached to this earth and the heavens that we as man will not know until we are transformed.
If I had not been a first line party to many of the mysterious things I've posted, I'd be very skeptical as some probably are...my faith is strong, but I am still very wary of the power of things of this world that the prince of the air controls.

I don't think God is going to send us to hell for telling some ghost stories around the camp fire, if so, that's the least of my problems. They are just stories.........

Halloween is a religious holiday to remember the dead after all.
