With a muzzle loader, comfort never enters my mind. I have never held one that I felt extremely confident in. I have one that can throw 1-2" groups consistently at 100 yds...but I just never have the same comfort level as other guns.
40-50 yds is my comfort zone, but I'll stretch if needed.

About 75 yards. But then, I don't hunt with those Godless scoped inline abominations shooting half-plastic bullets, either. 
200 yards.
I limit my shots to 130-140 yards (I have steel targets on the range). This is with a .58 cal open sights.
