Shark Week 2016

Just curious to see how many of y'all will be tuning in for Discovery Channel's Shark Week. It started earlier today. Just finished watching them showcase an 11 foot Mako shark. Pretty interesting stuff. I believe the folks in charge of what get's aired during shark week listened to all the fans from last year. They have stated that there won't be any more "fake" documentaries, like last year's Megalodon. I'm glad to hear it. Hopefully everything they show this year will be back to basics shark week stuff.

With all the activity last summer and the two bites this year already they need to have a shark week NC edition

They need to have some non-drama filled shows. I had to turn it off because it felt like a soap opera.

agreed. Some of the dive stuff they were showing and the commentary that went with it was depicting unsafe practices and very sensationalized

Wouldn't be so bad for the ones that don't give a crap about it like me, but they spend quite a bit of time pimping up to it prior to that week jumping in with shows and bits here and there about what is going to be on that week. Thus you can't avoid the mess by just staying away a week.

The segment about hammerhead really made me think God was a Southerner with a sense of humor.

I can just see a "hold my beer and watch this" moment with hammerheads. :)

And dolphins will tear some sharks up. They've saved humans on numerous occasions.

I was done with Discovery after that stupid crap they pulled a couple years ago. I bet they stil have "real" shows but the drama/music builds to a crescendo right before EVERY commercial. And I bet every bit of what you hear, is scripted, including when they are "under water" and "in possible danger" It's gonna be the same ole crap for another week.

Nothing new to enlighten the masses to how old, and aweswome sharks are, and how beneficial it would be for some of us to kill a few thousand of them right off our coast!!

To heck with shark week. Soon itll be grizzly week, then salmon week, and then you will NEVER enter the water again for fear of the brain eating amoeba week!

NC, I can't tell if you were being sarcastic or not, but, it's estimated that we kill approximately 63-270 Million sharks each year. I'd say in the shark killing department, we're doing enough already.

Im sure if you had real sources for what the populations are like vs discovery channel sources, you'd view things differently. Maybe Wanchese will chime in.
