Buckwheat?

I had a local hardware store give me a few pounds of buckwheat seed today. After a little research I found it normally serves as a better plot for birds but was wondering if it has any benefit for deer.

Good for building the soil, deer, turkey and rabbits. Had a squirrel run out out a buckwheat plot last week, not sure if he was eating or just passing through.

Oats are not a great late summer plot for deer. They are used more when young, and little when older, there are much better choices.
This is a good time to prep for fall, there's not much you can plant now that will be beneficial.

Like ncnat said, it's good for building the soil. A lot of people plant it as a soil amendment and as soon as it goes to flower disk it under and take advantage of the green manure it provides. Deer will eat it but there are a number of better forage options.
