I've seen more turkeys in Wilson County this year than I've ever seen on our farm. Of course, in the spring, they are nowhere to be found.

Too many hunters are killing them out,yes record harvest but dang too many hunters,if a turkey moves far on game lands it gets shot at. worst I have ever seen it this spring, first time in 23 years I did not kill one or get one in range for my self.Only heard a hand full all season out of 4 counties. But have got a lot of poults with hens around this year and 75% ARE jAKES!. only GOT 2 GOBBLERS ON CAMERAS AND SEEN NONE BUT HEARD 2 GOBBLE LAST WEEK.

last night unctv had a show on Exploring NC that focused on big game animals. I only saw the turkey segment.

evan stanford was talking and he had some interesting notes. In 1970 the entire state only had 2,000 turkeys. He then stated the population was 150,000. thus dating the show.

according to current thinking it is 265,000.

we are indeed in the "best of times".
