Duck stamp $125. 3 bird limit. No hens. Should clean up some things pretty nice. Keep them boys that can't id birds at bay.

So you mean to tell me at first shooting light when the wood ducks are flying you can tell the difference in a drake and a hen?? You must have night vision!

Yea, If they are decoying. I doubt anyone can if they are pass shooting. The Drake has a much more pronounced crested head then the Hen.

If you're decoying woodies consistently you're more of a bad @$$ duck hunter than me. And their crest is flat in flight...

Yeah, I had them landing all around us 5 min before shooting light, just new they were woodies could not tell if drake or hen. Lots of the shooting in swamps is pass shooting. Seems they always want to land on top of you before time and just past you after.

I like to age my ducks before I pull the trigger. I only want to shoot mature drakes with perfect plumage and I only head shoot them with one single steel pellet. I find it more ethical that way. But that's just me.

The reason that hen mallards are protected is not to benefit mallards, it is to benefit the populations of black ducks and mottled ducks, both of which(especially mottled) are easy to confuse with hen mallards and both species have lower limits than mallards.

Until I find any evidence backing this claim, or are proven wrong I have no choice but to believe this to be merely speculation. Try telling the judge you confused it with a hen mallard and let me know how that turns out........everything I've gathered leads me to the conclusion that it is because the mallard is the most hunted duck species in the nation, thus the 2 hen limit. But your logic sure sounded better for someone protecting the notion that killing all the hens you want doesn't matter. The biggest threat to black ducks is interbreeding with mallards, not misidentification by hunters

This was last year in AR yes if it flies it dies, but we don't shoot into large groups of birds, 8 or less only.

Funny story on that Blue Ross, I shot it, did not know how rare they were. The other guy asked if I wanted and I said no, so he took it to get mounted. I found out after I got home how rare they are.

Amen to that. We'll be heading out to Arkansas this weekend. I'm not too optimistic with the weather forecast being what it is ( warm and rainy) but it's been a horrible season for me around the God forsaken Atlantic flyway so I'm looking forward to going someplace that actually has ducks.

That's like a year without sunshine!....buff assassin I think you found a couple of them, those were some great times won't they

I'm not proud of it!! Haha. The older I get, I've learned I'd rather spend my hard earned money with someone who's done forgot more about killin ducks than I'll never know and be in an area that's world renowned for ducks that actually has ducks and has the potential for a bang up day than spend a $h!tload of $$$ scouting and driving around only to see a handful of birds.
