Oven cooked Eastern NC BBQ Wood Ducks

With duck season in full swing I thought I'd share an old favorite Wood Duck recipe a friend taught me several years back (I don't think I've posted this before).
1-2 Wood Ducks- cleaned and plucked, not skinned (yes it is a PITA but makes this better)
1-1/2 cups Eastern NC style BBQ sauce (vinegar base with NO ketchup)
3-4 pats of butter
Dutch oven
S&P to taste

Preheat oven to 475-500 degrees.
Rub pats of butter over duck's skin lightly coating completely, salt & pepper entire bird lightly.
Place birds breast up in Dutch oven and pour in 1" of BBQ sauce (use a spoon to get some sauce into cavity).
Cover with lid and put into oven for 15-20+/- minutes depending upon desired doneness.
Remove Dutch oven from oven and set aside without opening for a few minutes to let them continue to steam cook.
Remove birds and enjoy- excellent when serve with wild rice.
As an option you can stuff the cavity with apple and/or orange slices for a different flavor.
