Stuff to do in Asheville

Need some ideas of some stuff to do in or around Asheville. Taking a weekend trip in a couple weeks with the boss lady, and need some ideas. We have thought about doing some hiking. Thought about going to hike hawksbill or something easy. She's not much on the craft beer scene but she would probably enjoy some of the beer Asheville has to offer. Good places to eat are a plus too.

Open to suggestions, and appreciate any help!

The triple falls in DuPont forest, you can go over the hill to Cherokee to the casino, biltmore house is always good. Moes bbq in biltmore is a good place to eat. You take go to hot springs, 30 minutes from Asheville, and sit in a natural hot spring. You will have your own private hot spring under the stars.

Hawksbill isn't close to Asheville but drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway and visit Mt Mitchell if you haven't.

For eating 12 Bones BBQ is still open on Sweeten Creek Road

Luellas BBQ on Merrimon Ave is also good

I also like Webos BBQ in River Ridge shopping center

Apollo Flame Bistro has good sandwiches, salads and pasta

Tupelo Honey Cafe has really good biscuits.

Moose Cafe out by the Farmers Market is also good food

Biscuit Head cafe on Biltmore Ave is also good food

Have a good trip

Biltmore discount tickets are online, and spend the few xtra $ for the recorded tour NOT the human guided tour.
Western NC Nature Zoo is on the east side.
Black Mountain is a NEAT lil town also to the east with many nice cafe's and lil shops.
We sometimes go 15 mins south to Hendersonville, which has loads of cool lil shops and cafe's too.

I've gone to DuPont a couple times. Not looking to go there. I've hiked up and down Mt Mitchell but that might be a good place to take her to. She's not been to the mountains much, so kinda want to do some "have to do it or see it" things too. Every time I've been to mt Mitchell it's been extremely cloudy.

Go to Pack Square and kick hippies afterwards go to The Wedge for a few brews, a meal and call it a great trip.

Visit Mt. Mitchell, ride the Parkway a little, visit Biltmore etc... For a great hike and amazing views find your way over to Roan Mountain.

You could drive up to Black Balsam Knob south of Asheville and hike around.

The views are awesome up there.

Find a nice pub with outdoor seating. Now take a shot each time you see a car ride by with an Obama sticker or someone wearing Birkenstocks.
You may need a wheelchair to get out to your cab or Uber ride.

I was lucky enough to come from South Florida to the Asheville area in a "warmer" February nearly 30 years ago. We drove around (using at atlas) searching for waterfalls, and had a BLAST! We probably hit 10+ that were part ice, part running water. If bars and hippies ain't your thing, check out the many waterfalls in and around that area.

Whatever you do hit Biscuithead for breakfast (they're open from 7-2, 8-2 on Saturdays). You won't need lunch. The Briscuit and ham biscuits are 2 of my favorites. My wife had the fried chicken biscuit and loved it.

We went there a couple years ago. There is an indoor rock climbing place downtown. Afterwards you can walk around the downtown area and look at the freaky people. If you want to fit in go get some thrift shop clothes and don't shower for a week.

Didn't see it listed. If you like beer you can do one of the brewery crawls on the bus shuttles they run.

Spend all day visiting and tasting while someone else drives.

Then they drop you off back downtown somewhere close to your hotel.

Last summer my wife and I enjoyed spending a couple of hours at the southern highlands folk art center on the parkway just north of where you get on near the VA hospital. It has some artsy fartsy abstract new stuff but also some good original mountain craft stuff.

Y'all mustn't have been to Asheville in a while because the hippies have been replaced with yuppies. It used to be a laid back town where you could go downtown and not feel underdressed but that's not the case anymore but I digress. Regarding the OP I would highly recommend doing one of the Lazoom bus tours, they're are absolutely a riot, we have been on several and we live here. For hiking, drive an hour and hike up Max Patch, it's one of the more amazing places in the area. Some good restaurants mentioned already but I'd second the Moose Cafe for breakfast and 12 Bones for BBQ and Ribs, they're both awesome. Some other places you might like would be Mela for indian food, Green Tea for japanese/sushi, and Papas N' Beer for mexican food.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Asheville isn't the Asheville they think it is anymore. High rise hotels and yuppies are quickly stinking up the joint.

Still plenty of hippies, along with the yuppies and hipsters. What there isn't in Asheville is anybody who is from Asheville. I'd guess that 99.9% of Asheville residents are from somewhere else. As for Papas and Beer, they have good food, but I won't be back after they closed down last Thursday to support the illegal alien walkout.

For good craft beer hit up Wicked Weed, food there is fantastic as well. Sierra Nevada has a place up there also that is pretty amazing and food is great as well.

It seems to me Asheville is just Chapel Hill at a higher elevation

Not even close. Chapel Hill is an elitist town, Asheville isn't. If you're solely comparing the social and political views of the residents, sure you might be on to something but you might as well throw Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Wilmington and Greensboro in with them as well. The overall feel of the 2 cities isn't comparable. Asheville is a fun place if you don't go into it looking for reasons to hate it. McCormick field is like the Fenway Park of Single A ball and Asheville has some of the best breweries and food in North Carolina. Not only that but within minutes you can be hiking, mountain biking and rafting.

That's what I said........ along with Raleigh, Durham, Wilmington, Greensboro, Charlotte, etc.

Nope.

Asheville is far more left wing than even those cities.

Its reputation is real, valid and deserved.
