I used to carry a stone in my pocket just to remind me not to throw them.

But this story (and granted, Its just a story portrayed all over the MSM and social media as well), REALLY has had me face palming the last few days.
I have spent/wasted a fair amount of time reading about this girl's ordeal.

Before anyone blasts me or reminds me that their youngin can navigate a sailboat at night from the FL Keys to the Horn of Africa, I'll say congrats. BUT, I fear your youngin is WILDLY in the minority. I know every generation thinks the next has it easier, squared by the second generation. My Grandfather certainly did think that of all of us.

But this story is about a girl who felt "adventerous" enough to go see the Grand Canyon. By herself. Apparently COMPLETELY reliant upon todays electronics and social media to guide/help her along.

She took a road that was "not on her GPS". She "ran out of gas" but states she probably had 20 miles left on her reserve? She them records almost 20 minutes of "video diary" about her "ordeal". She even saw a truck that "didn't see her in its rear view" then hiked BACK to her car.

Now she's a star (15 minutes anyways). For being an idiot. To even compare her ordeal to the 127 hours guy is an abomination imho. She wasn't "trapped", or stuck or anything immobile.


But for the coup de grace, she is doing a "go fund me" account to help her pay for her.......SUNBURN!!! :mad:

I'm beginning to think these people just want their 15 minutes of fame and glory and will go to any length to get it. They don't care about the rescuers risking life and limb to "rescue" their candy asses.
Think of all the people that get "lost" in the winter but manage to make a miraculous survival story. 15 minutes... Their idiots!!

I remember when a GPS had about 40 pages and was 11"x 16". Thank you Rand McNally. If you got lost, you didn't tell anybody because you were embarrassed at your lack of common sense. Today you expose everything about your flawed self to the world to satisfy your desire for any attention whatsoever. I read this story a few days ago and just thought to myself that this will not be my kids! I got my work cut out for me.

Well I feel not one drop of remorse for her dumb$$. You take a trip to some where remote.. go off the path.. and get lost..... duh, being ill prepared for a trip is just plain stupid, and running out of gas in a remote area....... come on it's not like you don't know there aren't 7/11s in the canyon and that Most is the few that are all say " xx miles till next gas".... we failed natural selection by rescuing her, the struggle is real!!!

The good Lord looks after fools and drunks, and while I cannot say she is a drunk, I can and will say she is a fool. Electronic gadgets like GPS can and will fail, most times at the time when you need them the most. I have been there done that. The original old school GPS has never let me down, the topo map and lensatic compass. I still use to this day.

I don't know if it's people in general, young people, a recent or a phenomenon that has existed through the ages ....

... but I am constantly battling people to HAVE A BACKUP. They are so over confident in what they doing or using that they never consider contingencies. I think it's crazy.

When I took calculus in college (and any other math course including physics and chem) I did not have the chestnuts to take a an exam without a backup calculator. I was always over prepared. Still am. I always think what can possibly happen and go from there. Totally agree, no boobs no views.

I avoid porn like a disease, but I do admire most "real" women, even if they are "ugly" by majority standards. The braindead millenial SOS in this "news" story did nothing for me, though. Even with the volume off. :D

OMG, really? breasts is what we're discussing? The girl "assumes" all cars have a reserve, ASSUMES someone will come looking for her, ASSUMES a road with a truck traveling down it won't have another vehicle forever, and the discussion has turned into?!?!?!

Not saying I have NOT done DUMBER things, but I dang sure didn't ask strangers to pay for it!! An STD swab is one thing you just don't broadcast on the www and ask for help paying. Or I don't know, maybe nowadays you do?

Just for the record. I never said porn. There are more women on the internet then porn stars. I think he made an assumption based on my comment.
