What he is saying is they are not regulating the hunting of them that isn't illegal, the illegal part is having a weapon and light in an area frequented by deer. That is what is going to get you. It is just there in print, still could be argued in court if you wanted to foot the bill.

What if you just shoot a "free range" hog that you raised on your land??

Until they regulate them...nothing can get you. The law is just not there for it............the wildlife agency chose this route . Holton makes a prime example........

I really don't think you are as ignorant as you are trying to make yourself. You can walk around in YOUR OWN pasture and tell the warden when he walks up on you at night you are hunting for your own ferrel cows and he can still charge you with attempting to take deer after closed season or after shooting hours if you are in an area inhabited normally by white tail deer and have a light and a weapon that can be used for the harvest of a deer. The hogs doesn't have anything bearing on it whatsoever.

To NC passes legislation allowing hunting other than coon hunting at night that is what will get you.

I like how this thread has departed from it's origin. I still say to the OP bait them up and sit all day. We have pigs on our place and have only seen them on trail cam at night until my brother shot one at 3 pm. If you're not game for that then go ask the people who own the land where they're coming from permission to hunt just hogs. Or ask them to hunt them. Like I've said before, if someone starts putting pressure on them they'll move at different times and you might be able to knock some down.

dead pig bodies are an obvious sign that a person with a gun and a light at night are not poaching deer. kill the stupid things. they can reproduce around 3 times a year and this is why a few turn into 1000's in no time. my property and all the land around me looks like every inch of every acre has been plowed. it is rediculous and pigs are going to die one way or another. I think corn feeder, treestand and buckshot at night is a great way to make a good dent in the pig population. deer season and bag limits are as such that there is no reason for anyone to be poaching deer unless they are just a worthless lowlife.

don't believe that is legal here in NC,,,I may be wrong but would check with the local warden,,,,,,,,,,,,,

OK,,,did not see the 50-11 posts discussing this very issue,,,yes feral hogs (oustide of the Mountain counties) are not a "game animal"....but the "man" usually has a dim view of using lights at night,,,and so do the counties,,,thus all the county specific "light laws",,,,,,,

the "light laws"
Artificial Lights
In addition to the prohibition of taking wildlife with the use of artificial light, many counties have local regulations that prohibit shining lights on deer or searching for deer with lights 30 minutes after sunset or after 11 p.m.

A color-coded map showing county shining laws is presented on page 47.

The flashing or display of any artificial light between 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise in any area that is frequented or inhabited by wild deer by any person who has accessible to him or her a firearm, crossbow or other bow and arrow constitutes prima facie evidence of taking deer with the aid of an artificial light.
and the map for light laws is here

page 47

but you all do what you want........

PERSONALLY, I could care less how they kill pigs/hogs short of poisoning them. I think NC is a little antiquated in their thinking as far a night hunting laws go. I would like to see them open up night hunting for varmints. The moratorium was originally established when deer was next to the Governor in importance and they didn't want to give anyone a leg up to be out at night with a gun.

It will be like any other thing though, it will require a bill to be sent up through the legislature they aren't going to just volunteer to change it.

I agree

many other states allow night hunting for varmints including hogs with no heard of impact on the states deer population. the way I see it prima facia should go away. when they catch someone with a deer instead of a varmint nail'em to the wall
