The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will host a seminar on Practical Wildlife Habitat Management at its wildlife education center in Raleigh on April 24th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The seminar is free, but pre-registration is required. Presented by the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA), this seminar is designed for landowners and sportsmen who manage 5 to 500 acres and want to improve their properties for conservation. Discussion will consist of an overview of wildlife habitat requirements, guidance to develop a wildlife habitat management plan, the wildlife value of native plants and the drawbacks of some invasive vegetation, and utilization of habitat enhancements, such as old-field management prescribed burning, mast tree planting and food plots to attract and retain wildlife. The seminar will conclude with a question-and-answer session. Handouts on important food sources for wildlife will be provided to all participants electronically.
