Verse of the day

Lets see how this goes. Feel free to respond with comments or questions...if there is a particular verse you would like covered...let me know

Isaiah 40:26

"lift up your eyes to heaven and see. Who has created these things? It is the one who brings out their army by number; he calls them all by name. Because of his vast dynamic energy and his awe inspiring power, not one of them is missing."

It's hard to not believe in a creator when we see so much evidence around us. This verse brings up a good example of that in the stars. They were put there for our enjoyment by our creator. And if God knows cares enough to know the personal names of each one, being inanimate, how much more does he care for each one of us?

Eccl 7:1
A good name is better than good oil, and the day if death is better than the day of birth.

How can the day of a persons death be better than their birth? The scripture here equates death to being better than good oil. In those times, oil was a very expensive and sought after commodity. Having good oil was a sign of wealth and prosperity. But death was described as being better. See when a person is born, they have a clean slate; no one knows who you are. But at death, there is a history of what you have done, accomplished, and left behind, and everyone knows who you are. The same can be said of our "name" with God. If we live a godly, moral life in which we have served him, our good name with God serves us much better than any wealth or prosperity (oil) achieved while alive

Yea that's true -- I tend to see the day of death as the day we enter eternity with our Father - Heaven -- Eternal Bliss -- One endless day of rejoicing in Glory giving praise and to worship Him forever--Dying is the only way to get there--unless of course you are Enoch or Elijah :)

Thank you for the daily Bible verse...Its not hard for me to believe in a creator at all, if we have a creation there has to be a creator. If that car in the driveway or the house we live in wasn't put together by someone it would not exist or be there. For me its the same with the Universe, a much higher power than man created it and put everything into motion including mankind...

And remember that we are to live each day as the "salt" and "light" of the world. We are the only thing that the unbeliever has to base their judgement of Christianity on, let's all try to do the best we can to make them understand that the difference is evident and real.
I know I need help with this on a daily basis, but it's like anything else, we get better with coaching and practice. We have the greatest coach and the best rule book that has ever been, so it's up to us to be the best example we can.

Proverbs 15:17

Better is a dish of vegetables where there is love than a fattened bull where there is hatred.

Interesting verse that highlights the flawed reasoning of this world regarding the need to work as much as possible. So many people think that by devoting all their time and energy towards providing materially for their family that it will make their family happier. But too often it has the opposite effect. Numerous studies have been conducted on families where one parent works out of town for extended periods of time. The parents reasoning is that they can make a better living by doing so, which enables them to provide a better life for their children. This is only partially true. When a parent is gone all the time, and presents replace them....problems arise. At first, the child will resent your absence....but after a while, they will resent your presence. Things can not replace having a parent at home. Even if it means less money, having a job that keeps you close to home has benefits that far outweigh the lost income.....a happier family.

Psalm 146:4

His spirit goes out, he returns to the ground; on that day his thoughts perish.

When a person dies, the Bible teaches that the person (lit. "soul") does not have any consciousness of anything that happens after they die....their "thoughts" perish as well. This means they do not continue to observe or monitor the goings on of the world from a spirit realm. Rather, they await in a sleeplike state until the resurrection...which was promised by God through his son.

Heb 13:9

Do not be led astray by various and strange teachings, for it is better for the heart to be strengthened by undeserved kindness than by foods, which do not benefit those occupied with them.

This verse counsels us to be cautious about what we are led to believe. We have all heard of churches that teach things that seem to appeal to the masses instead of adhering to Bible principles. Watering down the message, leaving parts out, or "adapting" what the Bible teaches to fit the people you are wanting to attract to the church is a prime example of these "strange teachings." For this reason, it is wise to be careful in selecting what church or minister to listen to. Are they really concerned with teaching the word of God, or are they willing to change the definition of certain teachings in order to be more appealing?
