Old Mossy Horns
Due to the introduction of blueback herring into Fontana Lake the NCWRC will now have to stock the lake with 50,000 1 inch fingerling walleye each year to maintain the population at a fishable level.
what do the herring do to harm the walleyes?
pretty sure they've been doing this, Fontana not the only one, as they do this for Lake Chatuge as well.
I don't think they stock Chatuge with walleye
what do the herring do to harm the walleyes?
Simple explanation is they're eating all the plankton that the fry need after they have just hatched.

I don't recall NC stocking walleye in Chatuge but I believe Georgia did.
Stocking summary says 30,000 1"-2" walleye will be stocked in Chatuge by NC this year.
Hope they survive. Most likely they will be a snack to some football sized spots and Large mouth.
Every now and again someone will catch a big ol eye, they are few and far between
You in Crabtree in Haywood? I'm just a couple miles away.

You fish Chatuge? We've had a place down there for nearly 20 years. Out off of Elf School Rd.
Yes since the mid 80's. Growing up my parents had a camper there. I fish it at least once a week.
Where at? Walnut point or Penland point?
