Deer forums coming in May-confirmed

CRC

Old Mossy Horns
Last three weeks of May across the state to discuss changes to the deer seasons structure.

No more details than that.

Wrong.

Just confirming there are going to be hearings on deer management this May.

Before I was told there was likely going to be hearings.

The commission meeting web cast confirmed they are indeed going to be held and changes are indeed going to be proposed.

Meat hunters will not be happy with shorter seasons imho.

Proposed seasons, remember that is the whole point of the meetings to see what the general public wants.

Exactly but meetings are going to be held and changes are being brought before hunters.

Details apparently will be released soon.

Just letting folks know so they can plan to be there.

No know it all here.

I simply talked to the WRC deer biologist.

As I understand it a 5 week season is being looked at hard and the timing of the season will revolve around biology and not politics.

So a 5 week season for the state.

I was told they are looking to run season longer and into January and February.

Let's get our terminology right. Is it meetings or hearings? There is a difference.

Wait

You were talking 5 week deer season...

Now you talking shorten Gun season...

What is it and is it state wide or just in the world you live in....

CRC

5 week gun season is what I was told, sorry.

Have a good one.

I'll bow out of this thread now.

I highly doubt it is happening this year.

CRC said it so it must be true.

It is all posted in the NCWRC web site.

Talks about changing the way they are evaluating things.

Nothing about a 5 week deer season or big changes like CRC wants and is pushing for.

i hope they do shorten the gun season.

we'll all have biguns to hunt then.:)

and surely anyone can kill all the freezer meat they need in five weeks.

Maybe would change the cost of a deer lease or free up membership. Not many will wan to pay 1000 to 3000 for 5 weeks hunting.

Would for sure be fishing more.

That is what will happen...

Several of ours are farms that could get all the permits needed to kill as many as needed.

All it will take is 1 or 2 years of a 5 week season and several more car deer crashes with loss of life then everyone will push to kill them all.

I posted this back in March after our clubs annual meeting.

It sounds like some of what CRC is saying is close to what we were told by the local warden.

New NCWRC (possible) Rule Changes

My hunt club had it's annual meeting yesterday. The local warden came and spoke to the club. He was telling us about rules that NCWRC was considering for next year.

The big one was State Wide one or two buck limit. He said it will definitely be no more 4 buck limit in east. He also said no more unlimited doe tags. We will get 4 and be able to buy 2 more.

He said they are considering a 5 1/2 week rifle season to end the third week in January. Muzzleloader to drop back to one week.

It will be interesting to see how much of this actually happens.

I'm not pushing for or making an opinion on a 5 week gun season.

If you want more info just contact the NCWRC deer folks.

I would expect a reduction in bag limits and/or a minimum buck size long before shortening seasons. Only season adjustments I was told of was possibly moving seasons back, most of the focus was on deer size and limits from what conversations I've had. But then again I don't harass the state biologist every other day.

I haven't seen any announcement about the meetings. I thought they were supposed to be in May. Can anyone confirm that?
